An In-Depth Look at Lubricants for Trucks and Buses

Back to Blog

At the core of the global automotive industry, and particularly within the realm of heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and buses, is the need for exceptional lubricants that ensure optimal performance. As a manufacturer deeply embedded in the chemistry and mechanical engineering of lubrication, Banesto creates lubricants that optimise performance, increase fuel efficiency, and enhance vehicle longevity.

Engine Oil

Heavy-duty trucks and buses require engine oils that deliver high thermal and oxidation stability under harsh operating conditions. A high-viscosity index synthetic formulation such as a 5W-40 reduces internal friction, minimises wear and tear, and efficiently manages heat while providing a protective shield against corrosion. For the Indian market, a 15W-40 heavy-duty engine oil is commonly specified — designed to maintain peak engine performance in high ambient temperatures and stop-start duty cycles.

Gear Oil

Heavy-duty gear systems in trucks and buses demand high-quality lubrication under severe pressure. A well-formulated 75W-90 gear oil ensures smooth gear shifts and minimises wear by resisting thinning under load. For applications demanding higher film strength, an 80W-90 provides excellent load-carrying capacity and component protection under the extreme demands of commercial vehicle drivelines.

Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluids in commercial vehicles serve the dual role of lubricant and hydraulic fluid. A correctly specified ATF maintains optimal viscosity across a wide range of temperatures, ensuring smooth operation in diverse climatic conditions and effectively reducing the risk of sludge and varnish deposits that can compromise clutch pack performance.

Grease

High-performance grease is critical for components such as wheel bearings, chassis joints, and universal joints. A semi-solid EP-2 grade grease offers stability and effectiveness under high-temperature operations. For multipurpose chassis applications, an AP-3 formulation provides superior mechanical stability and resistance to both oxidation and corrosion — important for vehicles operating in wet or dusty environments.

The Banesto Approach

Banesto's formulations for trucks and buses meet international standards while also addressing the specific challenges of the Indian operating environment — including high ambient temperatures, variable fuel quality, and demanding load cycles. Our product development is driven by application data from real-world commercial vehicle operations, ensuring that our lubricants deliver measurable protection and efficiency gains in service.
