Mechanism

HOW A V-BELT DRIVE WORKS

Power enters at the driver pulley and flows through the tight side (T₁) to the driven pulley. The slack side (T₂) returns under lower tension. Net power transmitted is proportional to (T₁ − T₂). The trapezoidal cross-section wedges into the groove under load, amplifying the normal force and grip — without requiring proportionally higher initial belt tension. Speed ratio is governed by the pulley diameter ratio.

SPEED RATIO
i = D₁ / D₂. Larger driven pulley = lower output RPM and higher torque. Standard motor drives use a small driver to reduce speed at the load.
WEDGE EFFECT
Under load the belt wedges deeper into the groove. Grip increases without increasing belt tension — key advantage over flat belts.
WRAP ANGLE
Greater wrap on the driver = more contact = higher power capacity. Typical: 150–180° driver, 100–140° driven.

WHAT'S INSIDE

Every Beltone V-belt is built from four precision-engineered layers. Each material is selected for its contribution to adhesion, load distribution, friction resistance, and environmental durability.

Cross-section · Layer Architecture
01
Rubber Top Layer
Outer protective rubber provides the primary working surface — maintains cross-section geometry under tension and resists abrasion across the full speed range up to 30 m/s.
02
High-Tenacity Polyester Cord
Load-bearing member. Treated with special rubber adhesive to promote strong bonding to the surrounding compound. Delivers low elongation under rated load — critical for maintaining correct drive tension over service life.
03
Blended Core Rubber Cushion
Natural and synthetic rubber compound encasing the cord layer. Provides flexibility through pulley arc, distributes load uniformly across cord width, and absorbs shock from variable-load drives.
04
Neoprene Friction-Resistant Jacket
Square-woven textile fabric (polyester-cotton blend) coated with polychloroprene synthetic rubber. Dual-wrap construction resists oil fumes, abrasion, heat, and weather. Electrically conductive — prevents static charge buildup in sensitive environments.

BELT TYPES

Five belt families — each engineered for a distinct drive geometry, load profile, and application environment.

Beltone V-belt product range — Classical and Narrow section belts
Beltone Product Range
Classical · Narrow · Cogged · Hexagonal · Agricultural
01 / CLASSICAL
Classical V-Belts
SECTIONS A · B · C · D · E
The standard reference for industrial drives. IS 2494 certified, polyester cord reinforced, neoprene jacket. Available in five cross-sections covering all power ranges from small fans to cement mills. Custom lengths on request. Suited to agriculture, automobile, chemical, construction, oil & gas, and pulp & paper sectors.
02 / WEDGE
Wedge Belts
SPZ · SPA · SPB · SPC · 3V · 5V · 8V
Transmit 1.5–2× the power of classical belts at the same top width through optimised cord placement and dimensional geometry. Excellent oil & heat resistance, static conductivity. The standard choice for all new drive installations — from pumps and fans to heavily-loaded stone crusher drives. Space-saving across every horsepower class.
03 / HEXAGONAL
Hexagonal Belts
AA · BB · CC SECTIONS
A V-belt designed to transmit power on both sides simultaneously — essential for drives with one or more reverse bends. Special tension polyester cord construction meets dual power requirements under multiple bend conditions. Extra flexibility, high torque, and strength. Used in mule drives, mixers, crushers, agitators, lawn & garden equipment, and conveyors.
04 / FHP
FHP V-Belts
2L · 3L · 4L · 5L SERIES
Fractional Horse Power belts for light-duty industrial machinery and domestic appliances. Excellent flexibility ensures smooth, quiet operation. Applied in small fans, washing machines, power tools, vacuum cleaners, and office equipment where compact drive geometry and noise performance matter as much as load capacity.
05 / AGRICULTURAL
Harvester Combine Belts
HA · HB · HC · VARIABLE-SPEED
Built for extreme outdoor operating conditions — continuous exposure to sun, dust, dirt, stones, and other ingested material. High-tensile cord delivers exceedingly low elongation under rated load. Neoprene-impregnated wrapping fabric provides friction resistance, oil resistance, and anti-static properties essential for variable speed combines and threshers.
