Why HP ENKLO and Banesto HLP are Directly Interchangeable
HP ENKLO HLP hydraulic oils and Banesto's HLP hydraulic oils are both formulated to the same international standard: ISO 11158 Type HM (mineral hydraulic oil with anti-wear, rust-inhibiting and oxidation-inhibiting additives). Both use a zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP/DTP) anti-wear additive package — the industry standard for anti-wear hydraulic oils.
The viscosity grades, VI range, pour points and performance parameters at each ISO VG level are virtually identical. In independent lab comparisons of HLP 46 grade samples from multiple Indian suppliers, viscosity, VI, pour point and ASTM D665 rust test results fall within the same specification band. For standard industrial hydraulic systems — piston pumps, vane pumps, mobile hydraulics — this makes ENKLO HLP and Banesto HLP fully interchangeable.
The One Area Where They Differ: HVLP Grades
HP produces ENKLO HVLP grades (DIN 51524-3 Type HV) with a Viscosity Index of ≥140, achieved using VI improver polymer additives. Banesto's standard HLP range has a VI of approximately 103–107 — standard for mineral HLP oils. This means the Banesto equivalent is a near equivalent for HVLP applications, not a direct one.
In practice, for most Indian industrial environments where ambient temperatures stay between 15°C and 45°C, the standard HLP 46 or 68 will perform adequately. The higher VI of HVLP grades matters mainly in outdoor mobile equipment, cold-start conditions, or systems with extreme temperature cycling. If your system has been running stably on ENKLO HLP (not HVLP), the switch to Banesto HLP is straightforward.
HP ENKLO vs Banesto: Fire-Resistant Grades
HP's fire-resistant ENKLO range covers three distinct chemistries. Banesto offers an equivalent for two of them:
ENKLO FRWG (water-glycol, HFC): Banesto's PAG/water-glycol FR fluid is a direct equivalent. Used in die-casting, steel mills and mining face hydraulics.
ENKLO FRDU (polyol ester, HFDU): Banesto offers a water-glycol alternative. The chemistry differs — review circuit material compatibility (seals, paints, filter media) before switching between ester and glycol chemistries.
ENKLO FRPS (phosphate ester, HFDR): Banesto does not currently produce a phosphate ester fire-resistant fluid. This is primarily used in steam turbine control systems and is a genuine portfolio gap. Contact Banesto's technical team to discuss options for your specific application.
